Yann Delacour
Born in Saint-Brieuc in 1974, graduated from the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux arts in Paris in 1998 with Georges Jeanclos then Giuseppe Penone, Yann Delacour develops transversal research work linking sculpture and photography.
The notion of gesture, of play, the question of the body, of breath, of its envelope, of the process of production, of creation and its context are fundamental elements in his work. His works exist and are constructed mainly in the form of series. The creative process always seeks a balance between investment and result. All his images reflect a certain fragility but also resistance, bringing a tension questioning the processes of creativity and the genesis of form.
Yann Delacour has been accompanied by several galleries: Nathalie Parienthé, Bendana Pinel, La Galerie Particulière, Schirman & de Beaucé, showing his work during personal exhibitions and at various national and international fairs. His sculptures and photographs have been included in numerous private collections, notably that of Hermès. Several monumental sculptures in bronze or ceramic are installed in Paris, produced as part of real estate programs such as that of the new Laennec district, Paris 7th. His latest ceramic sculptures were recently exhibited at the Château d’Esquelbecq with the Galerie Bacqueville, and photographic works at Amélie Maison d’art under the curatorship of Christian Le Dorze, text from the catalog by Béatrice Andrieux.
Yann Delacour is also a scenographer (Hermès Fbg, Molteni, Galeries Lafayette Haussman, The Conran Shop, Minimasterpiece) and professor of sculpture and photography at the Beaux arts workshops of the City of Paris, as well as at the Sorbonne where he teaches visual photography.
Light is activated, and visible in its dual function, only once worn. It is associated with a body, worn as a brooch on a shirt or sweater collar, or with the face, worn as an earring. The challenge of this jewel is to highlight the face, the body. Light does not take the form of a match which was a source of fire and light. Light is really the consumed match object, which passed through a direct foundry and was transformed into precious metal, gold or silver. Once worn, it is the object that highlights its host in a symbiotic relationship. Unworn, Light returns to its black box.
“An artist is in revolt. If I had to define my nature, it would be this.
Light is the transmission of this energy, a breath.”
